For the love of the Pointer
My family has been involved with pointers for most of my life. My father is a keen hunter and so the need for the field pointer has always been an important part of our lives. The first pointer came to my parents many years before I was born. "Agat", he was an avid hunter and dad spent many hours hunting with him and training him. He was sadly stolen from him in his prime, and when my parents moved to Australia from Poland and I was born, the need to find another Pointer became a part of our family discussions.
My father first found a German Pointer who he also named "Agat", however he just wasn't exactly what dad was looking for. Dad continued to look for the elusive pointer and discoved how difficult it was to find one!
Eventually we came across Atsira Breeders in Adelaide and dad bought a lemon bitch. Atsira Lace, we named her "Viva". Viva means life, and she certainly had plenty of it! Dad hunted with her and as children we all enjoyed her happiness and exuberence for life!
Then in was decided that she should have a litter. We came across Willopoint in Gawler SA and Viva was mated to CH. Willopoint Lochinvar, a lovely black and white dog. 11 puppies were born, all black and white.
This litter proved to be quite sucessful, both in the ring and out in the field, and those who took puppies as pets sent back rave reviews about how intelligent they were and what lovely temperaments they had.
From that litter we kept a dog, Willopoint Ufo Skychase. We named him UFO. He was a great field dog, and only shown as a baby by me as a 12 year old girl. He had a lovely temperament, always the big boss, all other dogs respected him, he oozed aristocracy.
When sadly Viva died, we decided to look into another bitch, and bought a bitch from Des Delaine Turnix Kennels. Turnix Aga Haven Star, we named her "Aga". She was a lovely field bitch with boundless energy.
We mated Ufo and Aga in 2006 and a litter was born, 7 puppies of all 4 colours. I decided to register myself as a breeder, and we kept a dog Marinapoint Rex Skylark, we call him "Rex". Rex means king and we likes to think of himself as the king of the house. He's got a lovely happy temperament, and his energy knows no bounds. Hes a phenominal field dog, with so much natural talent.
Sadly in 2007, we lost Aga at only 5 years of age, and shortly after, we lost Ufo at the age of 12 and a half years old. They are both very sadly missed, remembered for the love and joy their brought into our lives. We wish them boundless quail to chase.
In January 2007 I moved to Melbourne, taking Rex to live with me. I decided to buy a bitch and looked into finding something with lines similar to my own. I found Lauriston Kennels in Omeo, and brought home a wriggly naughty happy bundle of fun. Lauriston Lily La Belle, we named her Lilly. La Belle means "the beautiful" and often her nickname is La Belle. She is a happy cheerful lady with plenty of class, and has been lighly shown. She is half way to her title.
I have since aquired another bitch Rhyll Reperiore, I've named her Aida. She is a very feminine bitch with a soft gentle personality. She has a big heart and a very strong field instict.
Shortly afterwards, I bought a lovely black and white dog from NZ - Ponsonby Kennels. Zorro (Ponsonby Special Delivery) as we have named him - after Doug's most favourite childhood superhero has a wonderful mellow temperament, and full English bloodlines which I hope will prove to be invaluable to us in the future. I am forever in debt to Kath Lodge of Ponsonby kennels for allowing this handsom young man to come to me in Australia.
I would like to spend much of my life growing and learning about this breed. I hope to keep the field ability of this breed intact aiming for beauty and brains in my breeding. We hope you'd like to follow us on our journey. Keep an eye out for future additions to the Marinapoint family!
